More production, therefore more packaging
The challenge from potato to bag of fries
With no fewer than 5 production locations, we can call Farm Frites a world player in the fries production market. The family business that came up with the idea in 1968 not to market home-grown potatoes but to process them, continues to grow and innovate. Due to changes in processing, more fries were being produced. This led to the demand for more packaging capacity and therefore a new packaging line in the Netherlands. VMEngineering assisted as part of the project team.
Experts in packaging lines
Thanks to our knowledge of packaging and packaging lines, one of our colleagues has been brought in to increase the capacity of the production facility in Oudenhoorn. Four existing lines were already responsible for the packaging of 25 tonnes of fries per hour and had to be made suitable for 40 tonnes per hour. A significant improvement in capacity.
Engineering and realization
Farm Frites was very clear regarding the project. The new line had to fit the existing lines, all requests had to be made with preferred suppliers and the team had to take an urgent deadline into account.
One of the better challenges was the realization and commissioning. Farm Frites’ production method ensures that there is little time in which the machines do not run and therefore to modify the installations. Nevertheless, it has been possible more than once to realize or improve installations in the time plane under the watchful eye of various project team members, including our colleague from VME.
In addition, the renewal was in part still an unknown way of working for employees of Farm Frites. During commissioning, the Farm Frites project team was able to provide new information and enriched the current knowledge on working methods.
Meet the requirements
In addition to the capacity requirement, several project objectives have been achieved. The project was realized within budget and within the recommended timeline. To be able to do this, precise agreements have been made with suppliers. VME is happy to take on the role of summing-up specifications, possibilities, limits, costs and other factors. On the basis of this, thorough choices and ultimately agreements can be made.
Thanks in part to VMEngineering, Farm Frites can now package even more products in bags, then in boxes so that they can later be distributed on pallets. Together we continue to take on challenges and look to the future.
